(Cecilienhof Palace)
Am Neuen Garten / Neuer Garten

Kaiser Wilhelm II ordered the building of Cecilienhof Palace for his son Crown Prince William. Construction began in 1913 and took four years. The palace was designed by Paul Schultze-Naumburg to look like an English Tudor manor. The design included a number of courtyards and 55 ornate chimneys. The Prince did not live at the palace for very long - in 1918 the Kaiser abdicated and in 1926 the Prince handed over Cecilienhof to the state.
In July 1945, Schloss Cecilienhof was the location of the Potsdam Conference, when the Allied heads of state - Stalin, Truman and Churchill (later Attlee) - decided the fate of post-war Europe.
