Brandenburger Tor

Not to be confused with its Berlin namesake, the Potsdam Brandenburg Gate was built in 1770 on the orders of Frederick the Great to commemorate the Seven Years' War. It was built in the style of a Roman triumphal arch, and replaced the original city gate from 1733. The gate had two architects - Carl von Gontard (responsible for the town side) and Georg Christian Unger (responsible for the outer side).
