(Dairy Farm)
Am Neuen Garten / Bertinistrasse

Built in the Neuer Garten on the edge of the Jungfernsee (Jungfern Lake), the Meierei was originally a dairy farm built to plans by Carl Gotthard Langhans between 1790 & 1792. It supplied the nearby Marmorpalais with dairy products. A second storey and a Norman-style tower were added by Ludwig Persius in 1843/44 for Friedrich William IV. In 1861 the building was converted to a pump house to supply the Neuer Garten fountains.
In 1918, the building was converted into a popular restaurant, but in 1945 it was burnt out. Sitting in no-mans land throughout the time of the Berlin Wall, it was finally refurbished between 1991 & 2003.
