(Fortuna Portal)
Am Alten Markt

Reconstructed main entrance of the Potsdamer Stadtschloss (City Palace). The Schloss originally stood between this point and the River Havel, but it was badly damaged in the last days of World War 2. The ruins were demolished by the Communist authorities in 1959.
The Stadtschloss was built between 1662 & 1669, with later renovations betwen 1744 & 1752. The reconstruction of the Fortunaportal (2000-2002) was financed by private donation as a first step towards the complete reconstruction of the Stadtschloss.
